Upward Bound is a pre-college program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and hosted by Rogers State University. Upward Bound helps to develop the personal and academic skills of high school students for success in college and a career.
Upward Bound raises the motivation and enhances the educational, personal and academic skills of students to ensure an increase in secondary school retention, graduation, and the students entry into college.
By participating in Upward Bound, students have the unique opportunity to experience college life while still in high school. The program provides students with a six-week summer stay on the Claremore campus while taking Upward Bound classes and participating in a wide range of activities and field trips.
The program focuses on student success by assisting participants in developing sound career decisions and educational planning, strengthening a variety of academic skills and broadening the student's perception and understanding of the world around them.
The program covers all student cost including rooms, meals, transportation and any books and supplies. In addition, student participants can earn up to $40 a month during the academic year by regular participation in one Saturday meeting per month and maintaining satisfactory progress in their school work.During the summer program, student participants may earn $60 a month. Some students participating in a career internship during the summer program may earn up to $300 during the summer program.
