Plant Manager, Pryor Gatorade Facility

Making Tomorrow Better Today

Mr. Chris Weber is the plant manager for the $180 million Pryor Gatorade Facility now under construction in the MidAmerica Industrial Park in Pryor.

The 1.4 million-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility is slated to open later this year and will employ 280 people. Gatorade estimates that the plant will have a $5 to $7 billion impact on Oklahoma’s economy during its first 10 years in operation.

Gatorade’s parent company is New York-based PepsiCo, the third largest beverage and food company in the world. PepsiCo currently employs about 1,200 Oklahomans. 

Mr. Weber, a certified plant engineer, has more than 20 years of experience with Gatorade products. He helped launch new facilities in Atlanta and Indianapolis, and has worked in plants located in North Carolina and Tennessee.

Raised on a farm in central Illinois, Mr. Weber earned an engineering degree from the University of Illinois.

Mr. Weber serves on the board of the Mayes County United Way and is a member of the Pryor Area Chamber of Commerce and the MidAmerica Industrial Park Plant Managers Association.

Mr. Weber has been married to his wife Jo for more than 20 years and they have one daughter. He and his family reside in Broken Arrow and are members of the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow.  Mr. Weber is proud to be a resident of Oklahoma and to provide support to the local community.

Critical Issues in Healthcare

Mr. James D. “Denny” Shelton is Chairman and CEO of Triad Hospitals, Inc. in Plano, Texas. Mr. Shelton founded the company in May 1999 by acquiring a group of hospitals from his former employer, HCA.

Triad Hospitals, Inc., a Fortune 500 company, is publicly traded and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The company, through its affiliates, owns and manages 49 hospitals and 10 ambulatory surgery centers in 15 states with approximately 8,845 licensed beds. The company also operates a subsidiary that provides hospital management, consulting, and advisory services to more than 180 independent community hospitals and health systems throughout the United States.

Mr. Shelton joined HCA as President of the Central Group in 1994. Previously, he held various executive positions with National Medical Enterprises including Executive Vice President, Senior Vice President and Regional Vice President. He has been a hospital administrator in Louisiana, Iowa, North Carolina, Georgia, and Illinois.

Mr. Shelton serves on the Board of the American Hospital Association and is a member of its Executive Committee. He also is a former Chairman of the Board of the Federation of American Hospitals.

Mr. Shelton earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Missouri and a bachelor’s degree in history from Louisiana State University.

Leadership

Mr. Ed Keller is the Oklahoma Managing Director for JPMorgan.

Mr. Keller’s banking career has included positions with The First National Bank in Bartlesville, Security Bank of Blackwell, Rogers County Bank in Claremore, The First Oklahoma Bancorporation in Oklahoma City, Mercantile Bank, and Fourth National Bank of Tulsa. He also has served as CEO of Bank IV Oklahoma. 

His past professional affiliations have included serving as chairman of the Metropolitan Tulsa Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Board of Directors; president of the Oklahoma Bankers’ Association; director of the State Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the Oklahoma State University Associates College of Business; president of the Tulsa Boys’ Home Board of Directors; and a member of the board for the City of Tulsa/Rogers County Port Authority.

A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Mr. Keller has received the OSU Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumnus Award and has been inducted into the OSU Hall of Fame. He has chaired various fund drives benefiting the United Way, Boy Scouts of America, American Diabetes Association, OSU, Tulsa Community College, and Tulsa Boys’ Home.

Among his current community endeavors, Mr. Keller is chairman of the Board of Directors for Saint Francis Health System, Board of Regents for the Oklahoma State University and Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges, Tulsa Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism, and the Oklahoma Business and Education Coalition.

He and his wife, Marilyn, reside in Tulsa. They have four grown children and four grandchildren.

CEO, Bama Companies

Leadership at Bama

Paula Marshall-Chapman was raised in Tulsa and spent her teenage years working at the Bama Companies. She received a bachelor of science in business in 1982 and a Ph.D. in commercial science in 1993 from Oklahoma City University.

She assumed responsibility as CEO of the Bama Companies in 1984, which includes Bama Pie, Bama Foods, Bama Frozen Dough, Base, and Beijing Bama. Under her leadership, Bama has expanded to provide a wide variety of frozen desserts and baked goods to restaurants around the world.

She has devoted her life to community service, and has led the Bama Companies in supporting a variety of community service projects. The Bama Companies was named the Most Family-Friendly Corporation in Tulsa in 2000.

She was named Quality Fanatic of the Year by the Phillip Crosby Quality College in 1989. She was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Americans in 1992 by the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce.

In 1992, she was named one of the nation’s top ten chief executives by Industry Week Magazine. She was elected by Junior Achievement as an honoree for 1997, and was selected Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young. In 1998 she was named to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce Business Hall of Fame and in 1999 she received the Pinnacle Award from Sales & Marketing Executives International. 

She has served as chair of the Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce. She is president of the Oklahoma Quality Foundation Board and is a trustee for the Tulsa Community Foundation. She serves on the Ronald McDonald House Advisory Board, and on the boards of the Bank of Oklahoma, Helmerich and Payne, American Fidelity Corp., and the University of Tulsa.

She recently was honored as Outstanding Philanthropist in 2001 for her interest and participation in community fundraising activities.

The Qualities of Leadership

Archie W. Dunham is chairman of the board of ConocoPhillips, the third largest integrated energy company in the United States and the world’s sixth largest publicly owned energy company.

Dunham served as chairman of the board,
president, and CEO of Conoco Inc. from 1999 to 2002. He became president and CEO in 1996 and was instrumental in Conoco’s IPO separation from former parent company DuPont in 1998, which was the largest in U.S. history.
He assumed his current position following the 2002 merger of Conoco Inc. and Phillips Petroleum Company.

He serves on the boards of directors of the American Petroleum Institute, the Energy Institute of the Americas, and the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, as well as the National Board of the Smithsonian Institution. He is also on the board of trustees of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, the Commission on National Energy Policy, and the National Infrastructure Advisory Council. He is chairman of the National Association of Manufacturers.

He has a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Oklahoma. The OU College of Business Administration and the College of Engineering have both honored him as a distinguished graduate.
In 1999, OU granted him an honorary doctorate of humane letters degree. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1998.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964, reaching the rank of captain, and currently serves as a member of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.
